About Capitol Hill Style

Started in 2008, Capitol Hill Style (CHS) is a fashion blog for women who don't want to sacrifice their sense of style for professional success.  CHS features styling tips, beauty product reviews, and professional guidance for fashionable ladies with serious jobs.  Because as the very wise Johanna Cox once said, "a serious job is no excuse" to dress poorly.

CHS is dedicated to the belief that women should dress for the job that they want, not the job that they have.  This site strives to provide professional women in their twenties and thirties with the tools that they need to succeed both professionally and sartorially.

About the Editor

Belle was born and raised out West, in the land of Wranglers and cowboy boots.  She moved to Washington, D.C. in 2004, to pursue a career on Capitol Hill.  She misses home terribly, but her passion for her work and an addiction to Zagat-rated restaurants keep her from slipping into a deep depression.

Capitol Hill Style is Belle's escape from policy discussions about the serious issues confronting the nation and the world.   CHS provides her with an opportunity to share her love of fashion and expound on her belief that the right clothes open all doors.  It also allows gives her license to window shop on the Internet for hours.

Belle didn't have a strong female mentor to guide her during the early years of her career, so she was forced to wing it.  Realizing that CHS could be used as a platform to speak to young women about more serious topics, Belle expanded the blog's focus in 2010, hoping to shepherd a younger generation of women as they make their way in the professional world.

Belle also likes long walks on the beach and sensitive men.

Okay, that last part is a lie.  Belle's never walked on a beach and sensitivity is overrated.

Oh, yeah, Belle's snarky.  Consider yourself warned.

The Capitol Hill Style Mission Statement

People say that Washington, D.C. is like Hollywood, but for ugly people.  But these detractors have never tried to maintain their appearance while living in a city built on a swamp, where the workdays start at dawn, the salaries are minuscule and the cobblestones eat stilettos for breakfast.

Anyone can be beautiful in Southern California. In the nation's capital, looking your best is practically a full-time job.

No wonder most of Washington’s female residents have all but given up.

Capitol Hill Style seeks to inspire the women who work on Capitol Hill (or in any professional environment) to strive for excellence in their career and their closet.  No matter the pay grade or the weather, we must not surrender our sense of style.  I implore you to fight for your right to be successful and fabulous.

I’ll see you ladies in the trenches.
