Fall 2011 Preview: J.CREW

Jun 23, 2011

From the suiting to the separates, J.CREW is a Capitol Hill staple.  Recently, the retailer released their Fall 2011 Lookbook for perusal and pre-order.  Because looking at wool trousers and sweaters is exactly what you want to do when the heat and humidity stifles.  Here are some of my favorite looks from the preview:

If you want to see the rest of the Fall Lookbook, click here.  While I loved many of the looks, there were some things that I wasn’t crazy about.  See if you can pick them out.  I’ll even give you a hint, printed brocade skinny pants are just the beginning.

I honestly don't understand the first “look.” The one with the pink pants. I don't get the jacket that to me makes it look like she's put on 30 pounds and the whole thing looks kind of frumpy, or nerd trying to hard… or I don't know… just off.

i like a lot of the looks, but i wasn't falling all over the look book like i have been the past few seasons. love those pink pants though.

  4. MM says:

Ugh – I like a lot of the individual peices, but hate the way most of those outfits are put together. Maybe I'm just not in the know enought to get it, but to me, these outfits are just ugly. The ones you've highlighted here are some of the least offensive though 🙂

  5. Ellen says:

I pre-ordered the red dress, and if you are interested, the details are below!

It comes in sizes 00-14, costs $198 and will be part of the September roll-out.

  6. VA Gal says:

There are some really cute items in there. I seriously want that dress if it comes in colors other than red(am a redhead – that shade and I would not get along). Of course, there's also the cable-knit mint green sweater tucked into burgundy high-waisted pants – not flattering. And for pure insanity, there were the striped leggings and that tweedy pair of skinny pants that looked like a 1970s couch was sacrified to make them. Yikes!

  7. K says:

That red dress looks insanely comfortable.

  8. Sarah says:

I can't tell from the picture — is the red dress a sweater-knit?

  9. Belle says:

The red dress could be knit, or it could be that crepe they make skirts out of. It looks too rigid to be knit.

  10. Belle says:

On second look, it's lined. Definitely crepe.

  11. Meg says:

Slightly unrelated but J Crew is having 30% off right now and some great suiting pieces are included in the sale. I scored a 120's wool jacket, pants and pencil skirt suit in a light heather gray for less than $200 and that includes free shipping!

  12. Amanda says:

@VAGal HA my favorite look was the burgundy pants with green cable sweater. Maybe if everyone hates it as much as you they will go on sale 🙂

  13. KLo says:

Do those better-versed in JCrew know if the minty pumps are the Mona pump in pale peacock or something else? And if so, are the shoes worth anywhere near $200?

    Thanks!

  14. Belle says:

KLo-I have a pair of J.Crew pumps and they're pretty comfortable. But you really have to make sure you get the right size.

  16. Jennifer says:

I loved the burgandy pants too! and the fact that they have skirts that go past the knee (the average knee length skirt is several inches above the knee on me, and above the knee shirts look positively mini on me). But tucking cardigans into loose, ugly colored cords? the printed silk cropped pants? not so much…

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
