Ask Belle: Under-$100 Handbags

Jan 30, 2013

Belle,

You always post such cute handbags on your blog, can you help me find some cute affordable handbags?

Thanks! Gabi

A stylish bag can certainly lift an outfit.  I usually add my red Biennial Satchel to otherwise neutral outfits for a bit of pop.  Here are a few choices that I found that are chic and under-$100.

1. Alexa Tote ($98) // 2. Rachel Roy La Coquette Shoulder Bag ($39) // 3. Jelly Bottom Tote ($50) // 4. Rachel Roy Small Frame Clutch ($59) // 5. Anne Klein Revival Satchel ($71) // 6. Natasha Couture Box Clutch ($48)

One. How fantastic is this tote? (So fantastic that it sold out. Damn.)  I love the peaked corners, the zipper details and the combination of colors.  This Buddha Skye Tote ($99) is similar, as is this wonderfully neutral River Island Tote ($71).  This bag also mixes colorblocking with a cool shape, Asos Neon Satchel ($53).

Two. If you’re not a fan of huge bags, this shoulder tote may be for you. Printed crocodile or snakeskin is a big trend for spring, and this black tote mixes embossed crocodile with a really chic shape for $70.

Three. This jelly bottom tote adds a great pop of bright color to a classic tote shape.  It would be lovely with a casual outfit or as a summertime carryall.  Want something more neutral?  They this zip bottom tote in colorblock for $66.

Four.  Need a basic clutch?  This frame bag in neutral shades could be mixed with nearly any spring, summer or winter evening outfit.  And again, more animal skin embossing.  Rachel by Rachel Roy sells a number of cute clutches, I also like this coral hinge number for $49.  Prefer a basic metallic?  This clutch is pale gold and just $26.

Five.  Pantone says that emerald is the color for 2013, but last year’s color, Tangerine Tango is still popular.  This bright satchel is a breath of fresh air.  I also like this orange Melie Bianco tote.  If you’re not a fan of orange, I would recommend red.  This basic satchel is a good place to start, but I also love this bowler bag.

Six. This candy-colored box clutch is just a happy little bag.  There are a lot of great box clutches on the market.  This studded finger clutch is edgy and cool.  This pleated teal satin clutch is much more stylish than its $80 price would suggest.  And if you want some “adult” sparkle in your life this dark grey glitter bag has a cool shape and a gorgeous color.

The best places to buy inexpensive bags are ASOS, Rachel Roy and Nordstrom.  Any bags that you’re lusting for this year?

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
