From Left, Rebecca Taylor Mesh Cardigan ($295) // Zara Studded Sandal ($100) // Band of Outsiders Shirtdress ($228) // Fresh Lip Treatment in Petal ($23) // Saffiano Leather Satchel ($358) // Tuxedo Pencil Skirt ($168) // Gorjana Sadie Cuff ($70) // Flower Print Top ($39)

A Slouchy Sweater.  Whenever it warms up in D.C., if it ever warms up, I plan to spend most of my time sitting on my balcony drinking iced tea and communing with nature.  At least as much as one can commune with nature while living in the heart of a major city.  And I’d like a slouchy sweater to wear over my weekend-at-home uniform of leggings and a long cotton tee.

This Rebecca Taylor sweater with open knitting is uber-chic, but it’s hard to reason spending $300 on something that will never be worn outside the house.  Instead, maybe I’ll try this cowl neck sweatshirt from Athleta or this shawl collar jacket from Last Call.

Statement Shoes.  I absolutely love these studded, rocker-chic heels from Zara.  They’re such an unexpected addition to my closet, and they’re perfect for jazzing up an LBD or an LWD.  They remind me of the mixed-media Rachel Roy sandals that I fell hard for last month.  I also adore these studded flat sandals and these Valentino-inspired kitten heels.

A Shirtdress.  I’m in the market for a shirtdress that can be worn to work or on the weekends.  This basic Band of Outsiders dress in crisp white cotton is pretty, as is this affordable dress from NY & Co.

Prefer some color in your wardrobe? Try this chic orange shirtdress ($52!) or this classic blue number.

A Rosy Lip.  Fresh Sugar Plum Lip Treatment is one of my all time favorite products, so I’m definitely going to pick up their new petal shade.  This sheer, pinky-rose shade is perfect for spring and summer.

A Structured Summer Bag.  My birthday is a scant eight weeks away, and I’m already saving up for my gift-to-myself, a chic summer handbag in tan.  I love this Michael Kors with its clean lines and chic shape, but this Coach tote is a close second.

Looking for something under-$100?  Try this Topshop flap messenger or this uber-chic DSW satchel, it’s to die for.

Pale Pink.  I’m not the biggest fan of pastels, but I’d like to add a soft, pale pink piece to my wardrobe.  This tuxedo pencil skirt from J.CREW is a nice choice, but I’m also feeling this soft silk blouse.  Or perhaps I’ll choose this colorblock MSGM dress with a pale pink accent panel?

A Leather Cuff.  I’d like to add a couple of casual pieces to my jewelry box, and first on my list is a leather cuff.  This Gorjana bracelet is simple and chic, as is this Hermes-orange cuff from Vince Camuto. I also like the mix of metal on this Milly bracelet, and the perforated leather cover on this Tory Burch bracelet.

Florals.  It just feels right to add a touch of floral to my closet this spring.  I like the subtle print on this inexpensive blouse from Wallis.  It would look lovely under a navy cardigan.  I also like everything about this sleeveless shirtdress except the high-low hem.

Or maybe I’ll dive into one of spring’s hottest trends and buy a black and white floral dress like this Alice + Olivia or this modern Karen Millen frock.  Need something budget-friendly?  Try this $70 sheath.

Plus size? Go for this Melissa Masse dress or this inexpensive wrap dress.  Petite?  Tracy Reese has a super cute dress with ruffle detail, and I love the contrast belt on this Donna Ricco sheath.

LOVE the Wallis top. Too bad it’s sold out in (almost) every size!

  2. Andrea says:

I love the top as well. Belle-did you find any other options? I am incorporating more color into my wardrobe (Running joke at work of how I wear to many neutrals). I also loved the price. Thanks.

  3. Ashley says:

I’ve always wanted to have a dress shirt. Well I tried many, many on but I wan’t able to pull off the look.

  4. BD says:

Have you ever order from the Baukjen company before? I like the look of their items but worry about ordering from an unknown.

  5. Taylor says:

I really LOVE the tuxedo pencil skirt! Have you seen any at a lower price point?

  6. Suz says:

I just bought that Michael Kors Selma bag in tan this week and I love it. The saffiano leather maintains the structured shape and it is a great size. You will not be disappointed!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
