Happy Hour: Summertime in a Glass

watermelon sparkler (8 of 13)

Is there any food item that says summer quite like watermelon?  This gorgeous fizzy drink from Tikkido is made with summer’s favorite melon and sparkling water, but the creator says you could also use Prosecco.  (Like there was ever any doubt.)  And there is also tutorial for how to make star-shaped ice cubes using watermelon slices.

BB Dakota Ivory Lace Dress ($92)

There will be a lot of white and ivory dresses on the blog this summer.  Consider yourselves warned.  Because, for whatever reason, every dress I’m drawn to, every time I think, “Ooh, super cute,” the dress is white.  And this BB Dakota dress is no exception.

Not down with the driven snow?  This full-skirted cobalt dress is phenom and this red ponte one is nice too.

Want something cotton, but sleeker?  I like this green eyelet dress, this sexy red number and this Dorothy Perkins striped dress is still on my radar.

Petite ladies should try this green polka dot dress or this pretty blush-colored one.  And I found this printed dress and this lovely white one in plus sizes.

Belle- if any catch your eye, some more dresses suitable for busty girls would be great! I just can’t wear anything with a high neck without looking extremely dumpy

  2. Thanks for featuring my watermelon sparkler drink! It really does taste like summer in a glass.

Lots of white dresses for the summer? Bring it on! I love white dresses!

So I just received that grey and white striped dress from Dorothy Perkins and, sadly, I’m quite disappointed. I was in love with it online and have purchased several dresses from DP in the past (both while living in the UK and since returning to the US). However, when it arrived it’s made of a very thin, flimsy material, rather than the more structured, substantial look it has in pictures. Additionally, t was overly boxy and large on top while being shorter than expected as well. WIll be sending it back tomorrow, unfortunately!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
