For the Office. This is a recreation of an outfit that was on the blog several years back.  I’ve always loved the idea of a bright pink pencil skirt, but this one is a little boxy for my taste.  I like the shape of this St. John skirt more, but I wish it were the price of this Anne Klein pencil.

If you don’t love bright pink, feel free to pull in any color you like.  As yesterday’s Ask Belle showed us, there are colored pencil skirts galore for sale right now.  And I chose a 3/4 sleeve cardigan, but you could choose a short sleeve one instead.

As for the belt, I would belt over the cardigan, only buttoning one or two buttons to help the belt lay flat.  I chose these tan shoes to match the belt, and elected to use a darker brown bag.  Too rich for your blood?  This tassel satchel is $169 and this $51 Melie Bianco bag is nice too.

I chose silver jewelry because the buckle on the belt is silver.  I like these hammered studs and this turquoise slice ring provides a nice contrast to the other colors in the outfit.

For the hair, I would wear it in a loose updo.  For the makeup, I would wear a pink gloss (this Trish McEvoy is my favorite, looks hot pink in the tube, but it isn’t) and a pop of pink blush (Bobbi Brown pale pink is great).

For the Weekend.  I adore these brocade shorts.  The colors are great and the pattern is just enough.  But $168?  For shorts?  Methinks, not.  But these coral Jacquard shorts or these dot-print shorts in lime are fun too.

Here, I paired the rose gold zipper on the bag, with rose gold details on the shoe and rose gold jewelry.  I’m apparently feeling matchy-matchy, today.

These bracelets are fantastic.  I would happily own the one with the square chain.  But if you want something more substantial, I think this $10 Cartier Love Bracelet-knock off is good for layering and I like this Starlet bracelet from Ann Taylor.

And I love these earrings with the smoky stone in the center, but I had to share these $7 infinity studs from the Buckle.

Last week, we talked a bit about the difference between work and casual bags.  This MZ Wallace tote has a structured shape, but it’s nylon, so it can easily do double duty.  According to the post, it hold most 15″ laptops and would be a great plane bag.  Miss M has one in gold and loves it.  If you’re interested in another shape or fabric, Nordstrom has a lot of choices.

For the hair, I would wear my hair in a ponytail with a teased crown.  For the makeup, how about a hint of lilac on the lids and some gray nail polish (I’m still loving Essie’s Smokin’ Hot)?  I’d also wear dark purple liner to give more definition.

I actually like the office style better than the casual one. But I pretty much dress office style all the time, so that’s not surprising!

MZ Wallace bags are fantastic. I have a Jane and a Colette and they’re both great (the Jane is more structured of those two). Both easily hold a 13″ laptop, as advertised. So yes, anything that is advertised to hold a 15″ laptop will hold it. I want a Kate next, I think, for travel. Sign up for their emails to be notified of sales.

Le sigh. I love the casual look, but I’ve been scared of shorts for several years. Any options for those of us with big rears who can’t pull off the shorts?

  4. GingerR says:

The printed shorts are worth considering. They push a weekend outfit up the outfit chain a little. Yours are pretty short, but there are longer ones around.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
