Belle’s Weekly Reading: The Remix

I posted this on Pinterest, and it was very popular, so I decided to share it here.

I have a terrible time with number five.  Sometimes I don’t know how I’ve survived in politics with a shocking inability to remember someone’s name until I meet him/her for the 104th time.  I am so jealous of people who have that skill.

***

1) Has anyone ever tried JustFab.com?  I’ve never used it but I spotted this cute bag on Penny Pincher Fashion, and I wondered if it was well-made or at least decent quality in addition to being really chic.

2)  Not sure how I feel about a push-up workout bra.  The vain, flat-chested girl in me says, “Yay!”  The feminist says, “What the hell for?”

3) Remember when photos of the “pink slime” that McDonald’s allegedly uses to make chicken nuggets transversed the Internet last year?  McDonald’s Canada operation has created a series of videos taking people behind the scenes to see how its products are really made.  Guess what?  No slime.

4) I love the muted neutrals in this Anne Klein scarf.  If you want a printed scarf that mixes neutrals and brights, Zara has you covered (this one, and this one)

5) I’ve never been a fan of Valentine’s Day, but Anti-Valentine’s Day goods are just ridiculous. Strike that. More ridiculous.

6) So obsessed with these snakeskin DvF wedges.  These Rachel Roy wedges are just too high to be practical, but these inexpensive Arturo Chang wedges are a good substitute.

7) 10 hacks to make your clothes last longer.  After putting a run in a $30 pair of tights today, I could use this advice.

8) I bought this Design Studio bracelet in hematite and gold from Stella & Dot and I can’t stop wearing it.  I’m thinking about scooping up the matching earrings.

i would NOT recommend justfab.com a few of my friends have had a NIGHTMARE of cancelling from them. apparently they have the $40 pair that you buy, right? everyone is happy – cute, cheap shoes. the catch is that they continue to charge $40 on your account each month whether or not you actually choose to buy a second pair. i’ve been told that their CS is horrible and they had to put stop-charges on the CC from justfab

    • B says:

second that. I’ve heard of several horror stories about them from my coworker. She had the same issue

    • Leigh says:

I also second the JustFab issues… I got one pair of boots form them and they are poor quality and it was an absolute nightmare to cancel with them. They kept me on the phone for 20 minutes trying to offer discounts and incentives to keep me as a member. No one should have to work that hard to get out of a program. It would be a little less awful if their shoes/purses were actually good quality.

  2. e says:

Love those DVF wedges! I have been looking for a pale grey solid or patterned pair to wear with my long navy and gray suit pants so I can attempt to commute in something besides pumps. Anyone have any other suggestions on commuting with long pants?

  3. Someone somewhere made a point to say that it was McDonald’s CANADA that posted the video, not McDonald’s U.S. … so there is still a possibility of pink slime (not to say that there is, but the distinction should be made).

I was pleasantly surprised, myself.. although the seasonings added can’t be natural spices without any MSG or anything to make you crave their golden nuggets.

JustFab.com also sounds a bit like a scam to me… I have not had any experience with them but I’m not willing to be a guinea pig.

Also, do pushup workout bras make you sweat more? I’d imagine with more padding or whatever they put in there, you might end up sweating, chafing more and getting itchy instead of letting air circulate and breathe around your torso…

  4. Caroline says:

I feel you on that push-up sports bra. Oddly enough, I’ve grown to love having pancake-boob while working out. I remember a time when I would have wanted one… but no longer.

  5. Valerie says:

Also undecided on the pushup sports bra…I’m on the bigger side (34D) and every.single.bra creates complete, sometimes uncomfortable uniboob (not to mention I usually have to wear two if I am actually running, rather than doing yoga/working out at the gym). If it fits better than the usual bras, I guess I’d try it…if it has underwire, though, no way (bad experience with one of those).

  6. Chicago says:

Yeah, I gotta tell you. Both my inner feminist and my gym persona celebrates that push up sports bra.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
