Gift Guide: MiracleFold Laundry Folder

MiracleFold Laundry Folder ($24)

A laundry sorter is a bit of a controversial choice for a gift guide.  Some of you are probably wondering when I teleported back to the 1950s, but stay with me for a moment.

Hitha over at the blog Hitha on the Go turned me onto this contraption because I hate folding laundry more than any task on Earth.  The MiracleFold makes folding a breeze.  It’s so easy (and just a bit fun) that I no longer let the laundry pile up in the basket until I need a sherpa and a yak to reach the top.

This would be a good gift for a college student, a young man living on his own for the first time, or a Secret Santa.  I love mine; I don’t know how I did chores without it.  Oh, yes I do, suffocating under a pile of unfolded towels.

If someone invents a folder like that for towels, I will buy two!

But my biggest issue with laundry is socks. Most people complain that their washing machines “eat” socks. Mine is a sock breeding farm. I can’t believe the number of socks I hang (no dryer) and pair up each week. There’s two of us and 7 days in a week, but even if I take into consideration a few extra changes after workouts the numbers don’t add up. It’s madness!

  2. Jenn S. says:

Like you, I detest folding laundry. I roll my towels, but really, a tool like this (I have the FlipFold one) is invaluable…especially with a husband who owns what seems like four trillion tees and polos (more of my clothing gets hung vs. folded). It makes it pass much faster with the added bonus of having everything folded neatly to about the same size.

  3. Maureen says:

I just bought one for my sons for Hanukah. Thanks for the tip!

  4. Sarah says:

ERIKA yes! I hate matching up the socks from the dryer. I now just fold everything and put a pile of my husband’s black socks (they look the same to me…) on the bed and tell him to do it himself!

  5. Leigh says:

This is genius. How do we nominate the inventor for a Nobel? Only half kidding.

  6. Jennifer D says:

I love this. I currently use different sizes of magazines to get the right rectangle. Most commonly used magazine is the J.Crew Style Guide, turned sideways. I started safety-pinning my socks together to keep the right mates. Unfortunately I have to use lingerie bags (I have a million) so the safety pins stay pinned, but it’s worth it. Oh dear lord, this all makes me sound so anal retentive . . .

OMG this is giving me flashbacks of my Abercrombie days…

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
