1) Struggling to stay productive this summer?  Everygirl has five TED talks to inspire you.

2) This $42 Eva satchel comes in a sophisticated gunmetal grey.  It also has great internal storage and minimalist details.

3) Profits are declining, you just laid-off 175 people, but why not go out drinking and post Instagrams about how your survived J.Crew’s version of the Hunger Games.  Speaking of bad brand behavior, Jezebel covers how things at Nastygal turned, well, nasty.

4) Shopbop has some sleek dresses for work.  This Black Halo Jodee dress is a great basic.  I adore this ivory, blouson Badgely Mischka dress.

5) This is the most horrific wedding night story that I have ever heard.

6) Yesterday, we talked about nude-to-you shoes for a variety of skin colors.  Stuart Weitzman is now offering their basic styles in a rainbow of flesh-toned hues.

7) The airlines are discussing shrinking the size of allowed carry-on bags to fit more bags on the plane.  Or to force more people to check luggage in order to drive up their profits.

8) I’m still searching for the perfect off the shoulder top.  ASOS has this Laden top in crisp white that I really like.  This black Warehouse top has a great bohemian look.  Plus-size readers should look at this Gypsy top.

9) The L.A. Times reports on Comic-Con’s decision to ban selfie sticks as a “small victory for society.”  Several dozen museums, theaters, and festivals are also showing them the cold shoulder.

10) I spotted this Tory Burch Brody satchel on Atlantic Pacific, and I am obsessed.

Re: #8 I really like the boho flair of the off-the-shoulder tops, but never sure if they’ll make me look pregnant. I’m a D cup and usually not self-conscious about my stomach area, but the OTS tops might create a weird “balloon” effect (sort of like those “trapeze” dresses that were all the rage a few years ago).

Re: #5, the OP wrote back to Carolyn Hax in her weekly chat here: https://live.washingtonpost.com/carolyn-hax-live-20150619.html

My only comment to this entire crazy saga is it’s a good thing this lady got her passport back.

  3. Mikey says:

    2) Love the shape of that Danielle Nichols bag and I’ve been wanting one of hers for a while… but I’m not sure about the color and thinking about going leather in future bags so they last longer. Anyone able to comment on the durability of her bags?

    3) The J.Crew story frankly doesn’t surprise me, but the Nasty Gal one does, especially given how the press lauds #girlboss. I’ve always window-shopped their website because I love the street/punk style, and they had cute “normal” clothes on occasion too… but I’ve definitely noticed that the style and price point have changed a lot over the last few years. I guess it’s good to have that sense validated, but after this article (especially the fact that they couldn’t find one employee to say something positive about the company!) I won’t be shopping there after all.

  4. Sarah says:

Wow! That J. Crew story. I was recently laid off, and if I saw pictures of my boss celebrating afterwards, I cannot imagine the level of anger I would have felt. It’s already such a demoralizing experience. So needlessly cruel and self-centered, if the story is correct about what happened.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
