1) Are we working hard or hardly working? Why more hours doesn’t translate into getting more done.

2) These Mango suede slingbacks are spectacular (in pale grey and a gorgeous navy).  I can’t believe they’re only $79.

3) Four insightful questions you should ask yourself to increase your productivity and figure out what’s slowing you down.

4) This hanging desk organizer is everything.  I also love the soft green of this Elby desk collection.

5) How to gracefully exit any party conversation.

6) Boden’s selection of work dresses includes this comfy Erica dress.  I also like this versatile Aurelia dress in six colors — it’s a beyond-basic sheath.

7) Professional note takers offer tips on how to improve your own note-taking abilities.

8) Looking for a statement necklace?  I am obsessed with this Garbo collar.  It’s the perfect mix of modern and deco.

9) Eight habits of people who have great ideas, and how successful people keep track of their ideas.

10) I bought this Talbot’s plaid wrap for keeping warm on the plane.  I also picked up this emerald side-drape dress and this long double-station necklace in mixed metal.

11) Are your earnings linked to your weight?

12) This Extra Petite post reminded me that I need a new pair of cognac boots.  I’m deciding between these Frye boots and these less-expensive Anne Klein boots.

Eye Candy.  This John Hardy rose gold and diamond feather ring is both delicate and modern.

How does that Talbots dress fit? I adore it, but the reviews aren’t very helpful.

Talbots: that store I associate with Carmela Soprano that I really shouldn’t.

    • Carrie says:

I bought that dress last week and sadly will be returning it. The fabric is pretty thin and it doesn’t ‘hug curves’ in a good way. I find Talbot’s dresses run a bit large. I’m between sizes (I size up for my hips and then tailor the top half down to fit my waist/torso), but tend to pick the smaller of the two sizes for Talbot’s dresses.

I will say, the color on this dress is nice, and liked the top portion of the dress. I just didn’t like how the fabric fell over my hips. I think that if that’s not a problem you have, then a slip/right undergarments would solve the thin fabric issue and if you’re in between sizes, choose the smaller of the two.

      • Nora says:

THIS! This is a super-helpful review. If only they were all like this.

I believe I’ll be skipping this dress, as based on your description we are similarly-shaped. Thanks for saving me the money!

  2. Anna says:

I love my Frye boots. I never thought a leather lining could be so comfortable, but they are and they’re sturdy to boot. They eventually just mold to your feet, and because they’re well-made, getting them repaired should be fairly simple (though I’ve had mine for one winter and they look great, though I should take better care of the leather and get them waterproofed).

  3. Valerie says:

I spotted the hanging desk organizer at Anthropologie last year and wished it was *not quite as expensive as it is* because it looks fantastic.

  4. Katherine says:

I love the grey slingbacks from Mango. That’s not a store I’ve ever think to check out, so thanks for the tip. Just ordered them!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
