1) Play the woman card, and reap these rewards! (The Washington Post)

2) These leopard banded sandals from Sole Society bring the best of fall into the summer.  I also like their fringe Koa sandal.

3) Hooked on reality TV?  What one woman learned working as a writer, and why she quit.

4) These Officina Bernadi moon hoops are so incredibly beautiful with rose gold and hints of sparkle.  Their delicate chain bracelet is also perfect for layering.

5) How we can help young girls stay assertive. (Fast Company)

6) This portrait-collar top from Talbot’s is perfection.  These Edison brush-twill d’Orsay flats are very pretty.

7) Why so many studies say you shouldn’t work out to lose weight. (Vox.)

8) My favorite Outnet new arrivals: This fashion-forward splatter-print Milly skirt, this twist-front, red Maje top, and this cool striped dress from Tart.

9) The maker of the Dyson vacuum is creating a quiet hair dryer for all your primping needs. (The New York Times)

10) This baby pink Primula cardigan from Anthro is utter perfection.  Their Chamonix cardi is perfect for an overly air conditioned office.

11) What are your favorite resources for summer travel?  I like CheapAir for good deals and Travelzoo for discovering new places to go.

12) H&M is killing it.  This off-the-shoulder coral dress is fab.  I also love this sheer jacquard skirt.  And this embroidered maxi dress is lovely.

Re: No 7 – It seems like so much about this is semantics. Of course exercising so you can indulge more doesn’t result in weight loss, if anything you would only be maintaining your weight.

Also the concept of “losing weight” is problematic in the first place. The goal should be to change your body composition, and that doesn’t always show up in the standard measurements of weight and BMI that even doctors rely on. If you get a decent amount of cardio activity in, do strength training with real weight and work on your flexibility you can change your body with exercise.

I just hope these studies don’t make people think that their damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. I know the point is to take a ton of science and make it easily consumed, but the conclusion the author arrives at may not be the whole story.

Like this statement is basically false: “We have no control over our basal metabolic rate, but it’s our biggest energy hog.”

The article that is linked to even says you can LIFT WEIGHTS to build muscle mass and increase how much energy your body expends even at rest.

    Ugh.

THANK YOU! I was coming down here to comment on the same link.

    • Anna says:

I haven’t read this specific article, but similar ones generally support the notion that you can’t exercise away a bad diet and the fact that many people overestimate how many calories they actually burn during exercise. You can even overeat eating healthy foods. Exercise is great for maintaining weight, not so much for losing it.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
