Ask Belle: Mules for Spring

Mar 18, 2015

Belle…

Mules are back? Awesome. I loved them in the 90s and I’m glad to see them again.  Can you suggest a few pairs in the $75-$150 range?  I am so excited to see your picks.

Age Ain’t Nothin’ But a Number

Yes, mule high heels are back in style.  I wish the heels weren’t as high as they are–I saw a cute pair with 6″ (!!!) heels, and I was so sad.  But here are a few pairs in your price range.

Now, I just need to practice walking in mules.  Need a trick to make walking in them simpler?  Grip tape on the soles gives you a little more traction, while a moleskin insole gives you a snug fit.

Like this style?  I also found it at Asos in black and at Charlotte Russe in tan.

Aldo Ama Nude Mules ($120)

I must admit these are my favorite.

INC Concepts Rufuss Sandals ($79)

Need a flat mule? I can’t decide if these look too much like bedroom slippers or not, but I still kind of love them.

Ewww! No! No! No! No! No! Just the thought of the slapping against the foot sound they make makes my stomach turn.

  2. A says:

As a tall girl, I love the concept of flat mules. Sadly, they make that terrible flip-flop “thwap” sound, which isn’t great in the marble halls of Congress. If anyone finds a pair under 3 inches, send them my way!

  3. Lexi says:

Love the way they look, but that flip flop sound drives me crazy and doesn’t come across as very professional.

At first I thought this post was going to be a joke (early April Fools perhaps?) but alas…. NO. Just no.

  5. […] are making a comeback. Guess I need to start practicing walking in them because I am in love with Belle’s shoe picks on her […]

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
