Ask Belle: Wedges for Work

May 4, 2015

Belle,

My favorite pair of wedge pumps bit the dust.  Can you help me find a new pair for work?  I’d like black or tan, maybe both.  I want to spend around or under $125.  Thanx!

Lauren

If you’re looking for shoes with lift but need stability, wedges are a great option.  Some styles are so clunky it can hardly be believed, but you can find sleek styles if you’re willing to search a bit.  Wedges are a good option for any job where you need to walk a lot and want to give your ankles a break.  Here are a few pairs to try:

Jessica Simpson Sampson Wedge ($69)

Nine West ISpy Wedge ($79)

Via Spiga Darby Pump ($117)

Corso Como Jayne Wedge ($120)

Cole Haan Kenzie Wedge ($99, also in black)

Looking for a cheaper open-toe option?  This Liz Claiborne pump is a good intern-priced choice.

I love wedge pumps, I’m terrible at heels so they are the only way I can get the height without wobbling all over the place. I have a pair by Ecco that I love!

  2. P says:

I saw someone wearing a gorgeous pair of navy wedge pumps the other day — they were pointed toe and had a very tasteful bow on the front. I think they were some sort of saffiano-looking leather.

I wish I had stopped to ask her. Does anyone know of anything similar?

  3. Katie says:

The J. Crew Factory wedges (I have them in black and tan) are the BEST. Perfect heel height and super comfortable

    • Kara says:

I second the J crew Factory Wedges. I almost need a new pair of the black ones, mine have been worn so much.

  4. Emme says:

I’m on my second pair of black Calvin Klein wedges- the first pair was almond toe, the second is pointed. Super comfortable- I wear them everywhere. I purchased both at Nordstrom Rack for around $60 each.

  5. Katherine says:

They’re lower than the ones shown, but the Cole Haan Milly (I think they’re discontinued but can still be found in a few places) and their sister shoe, the Air Tali are pretty much the only shoes I wear anymore. I’ve got horrid knees and walk around a lot for work on gravely parking lots and these have never let me down. I think I own them in every color.

  6. Mallory says:

I live in my Ivanka Trump wedges. So comfortable and they’ve worn very well over the past two years.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
