Ask Belle: Holiday Sweaterdresses

Dec 15, 2014

Hi Belle,

I loved the post you did on sweater dresses a few weeks back, but I didn’t buy one when I should have.  Can you recommend some under-$75 dresses?  Maybe something that I could wear to work when we’re not in session?

Thanks! Max

I love sweater dresses.  They’re one of my favorite things about the winter.  Add a great pair of tights and a cute boot, and you’re all set for work or play.

Target Longsleeve Crewneck Sweaterdress ($18) // Eliza J Fair Isle Dress ($58) // Calvin Klein Cable Knit Sweater Dress ($68)

How great is this crewneck dress for less-than-$20?  It comes in six colors and runs from XS to XXL.  Target has a few other great choices, like these striped and color block dresses.  I also like this cowl-neck dress in monochromatic stripe.  Plus-size?  I like this black dress with a melange panel.

This Eliza J dress in Fair Isle is also a nice choice.  Old Navy also offers an inexpensive dress with a gorgeous Fair Isle detail.  I also really like this printed sweater dress with a fit-and-flare shape.

For a chic basic, this ivory Calvin Klein dress with a folded neckline is a good choice.  Also at Macy’s, this Tommy Hilfiger dress in the berry-and-navy stripe is absolutely to.die.for, do not miss it.  Gilt also has this basic sweater dress in gunmetal grey, which you could dress up or dress down.  And this BCBG dress with slim cutouts in the back would be good for a dinner date or party.

Sweater dresses are such a winter lifesaver – a socially acceptable way to essentially wear pajamas in public! Love all of these!!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
