Burgundy is hot for fall again.  A pencil skirt is a great place to start.  Wear it with grey, camel, navy and ivory.  Or go for a color and wear it with mint, purple, or blush.

Hi Belle- Hope you had a nice (but too short) break. Could you do a post on wearing a burgundy pencil skirt with tights? I know the 2-3 rule, but I always have a tough time with this one.

    Thanks!

  2. Jenn S. says:

Whaaaat, I’m accidentally on-trend with my skirt today? And I’m wearing a blush top! Watch out, the sky might be falling.

I think I speak for at least a handful of your readers, but thank you for teaching us how to dress ourselves. It’s a little silly, but when I realized that I was wearing oh, precisely what you were recommending, it was like, “Yes! Success! I’m finally starting to get it!”

Also I absolutely second the request for advice on tights with a burgundy or oxblood skirt. Are our only options black tights/black shoes?

    • Jess says:

I had the exact same whaaaaat moment! Just received a burgundy pencil skirt that I ordered last week, and feel unreasonably pleased with myself. Maybe there’s hope for those of us “learning” to be stylish after all.

And I third the tights request – especially curious about shoes (as I’m a black tights only kind of gal anyway). And some flat options would certainly be welcome!

Burgundy and purple? Could you show us a few looks? I don’t know what shade of purple would go with burgundy…

  4. A.J. says:

I never in a million years would have come up with pairing mint and burgundy, and I couldn’t picture it mentally. But… so cute! Thanks for the tip!

The Beauty Edit: Neck Creams

Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]
