Today’s outfits are a skirt and sweater combo for two different personality types.  On the left, for the flirty, feminine woman who likes to keep things simple and fun.  On the right, you have a more sophisticated outfit that has clean lines and a tonal color palette.

Pretty and Chic. This Boden sweater is a great option if you’re looking for affordable cashmere.  It comes in 20 colors–neutrals and brights–and is fairly well made.  Plus-size? Lord & Taylor has you covered.

The printed skirt gives the outfit a slightly more modern feel.  The boots also help with that.  If you’re looking for something under-$100, this black and white skirt could work.  I also like this Classiques Entier skirt if you want to keep to the blue palette.

I chose the boots to bring an outfit that could be easily worn in spring/summer into the fall.  When it gets cold, add a pair of tights.  My favorite tights? Spanx 70 Denier tights.  Second place are Commando tights.

For the hair, I like it up in a pretty twisted do.  For the makeup, I would keep it pretty neutral with a lot of mascara and some lip gloss.

Modern and Sleek.  This is an outfit that I would easily wear myself.  I love the monochromatic look with the dramatic bow.

This sweater is a really inventive topper.  I love the interesting shape and cool stitching pattern.  You could also choose a structured crepe top.

The accessories are a little funkier than usual.  The tote has some interesting details, and it’s very affordable.  If you want a straight satchel, I like the details on this pale grey Nine West number.

I added the burgundy shoes for a subtle accent.  For something a bit more affordable, these suede Sam Edelman pumps are nice.  I also like these Helena ankle wrap pumps for something a bit different.

For the hair, you could wear it down or up.  I think down and wavy is the best choice.  For the makeup, I would wear a burgundy nail.  I like the light sparkle in this Jin Soon polish.

I love that Tibi Obi Skirt! A little out of my price range though. I wore a lot of pencil skirts up until last year, when I was pregnant with my second son. Now 6 months after having him I just dont’ think pencil skirts look good on me any more. I’d love to see you feature more flowy skirts like this one! Maybe a post about them, in different price points? And how to style for fall / winter?

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
