Ask Belle: Spring Coats and Jackets

Feb 3, 2016

Hi Belle,

Finding a spring coat that’s not a boring seems impossible.  Can you help me?   I just want something that is not a bland tan trench.  Love the blog.

If you have your basic trench covered, you might want to spice things up a bit.  You can do this in a myriad of ways.  Here are a few of the styles you can add to give your spring outerwear a boost.

Ann Taylor Banded Sleeve Topper ($228) // Coupe Olive Jacket ($89) // ASOS Grey Bonded Trench ($129) // Barbour Calvary Quilt Jacket ($199)

Pop of Color. Need to brighten your outerwear selection?  Why not bring in a bit of color?  This orange coat is a bright (very bright) option.  For something more subdued, I love this drapey, pale pink coat from Cupcakes and Cashmere.  This mustard colored casual jacket from Old Navy is also a good choice.

Want a colored trench?  NY & Co has this bright fuchsia trench.  Plus-size?  This coral Carmakoma trench is worth a look.

Olive All the Way. I wear my olive coat constantly; it’s the perfect semi-casual jacket.  This Coupe jacket is a sleek choice.  For something very affordable, this Forever21 Zip-Pocket jacket is $25.  Want to splurge?  This Barney’s New York jacket is cool.  Plus-size?  This drawstring hooded jacket from Charlotte Russe is the one for you.

Unique Trenches.  Want to elevate the basic trench?  Choose a new style or new color.  This grey trench from ASOS has both a relaxed, modern style and a chic grey hue.

This drape trench from French Connection is not.to.be.missed.  It has the functionality of a trench but a totally unique style.  This white, crepe trench from LAMade has a super chic, 1970s flair.

Quilted Jackets. A preppy staple, the quilted jacket is a classic.  While a Burberry jacket is the creme de la creme, this Barbour coat is a good substitute.  For something affordable, Land’s End always has great basics at good prices. Plus-size?  Try this Violeta by Mango jacket.

So what’s your favorite spring coat?

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
